Business Unit Rules

The following rules apply to business units created and managed for any Touchstone installation:

Business units must be unique across Touchstone.

A business unit cannot share databases with other business units. Therefore, if a user needs access to multiple data sets, you must replicate their data, on a regular basis.

Each business unit contains users, projects, and data results.

If a business unit spans multiple database servers, each server contains one set of users, projects, and data results. However, Touchstone filters the lists of users, projects, and data results based on the server to which the user is currently connected. In this scenario, users select one server to work in.

If a business unit is on a single database server, the server contains multiple sets of users, projects, and data results for each individual business unit.

Users can belong to multiple business units, but can work in only one business unit at a time.

Business units are not hierarchical. Entities in the structure are not subordinate to other entities.

When a user adds a project or a database, it is included in the project/database list for the business unit.

A project can belong to only one business unit.
