Map Layer Import: Select File

This topic describes the first screen that appears when you open Map Layer Import, where you select the map layer to be imported. (The Next button on the screen is not available until you have entered valid information in all the required fields.)

Parameters & Buttons

Description

Common buttons

Use these buttons (when applicable) and the parameters below to import map layers. The supported map layers depend on the version of Touchstone that you are using.

File Selection

Navigate to the location of the file that you want to import and then select the file you want to import.

File Selection: Layer

Specifies the layer associated with the selected file.

Import Options: Layer Name

Enter a unique name that describes the specific type of map layer being imported. The layer name is useful when you are searching for the layer to display on your exposure data or to use with Geospatial Analysis results.

Import Options: Group Name

A unique name that describes a collection of map layers that are associated with a given event. Select an existing group or create a new group. Click here for important map layer grouping considerations.

Data Type

Select the data type associated with the selected file.

Peril

Select the appropriate peril based on the data in the file. The peril list includes four categories: Earthquake, Tropical Cyclone, Severe Storm, and Other.

Event Year

This optional field appears only if you select Historical Event or World Scenario as the data type. This can be useful when you are viewing map layers because you can display layers by the specified event year.

Field Mapping (shapefiles)

Optionally, select one field to use as descriptive text on the map when displaying the map layer in Touchstone. The Label Field list includes all the fields contained in the shapefile file. For example, if a "rivers" shapefile includes the name of a river, you can set the label field to the name of that river.

Field Mapping (CSV Grid files)

(CSV Grid files are supported in Touchstone 5.0 and earlier.)

Select the appropriate latitude and longitude fields based on the column headings in the CSV Grid file. You must map the latitude and longitude fields so that Touchstone knows which entries in the CSV Grid file represent the coordinates of each grid cell.
