Server Definition

System Administrators are the only people who are authorized to add or remove SQL Server instances. Business Unit Administrators can specify the path for the default MDF and LDF folders for all newly created exposure and results databases.

The Server Definition pane contains the following buttons and parameters that you use to define a server:

Usage notes

There must always be at least one SQL Server instance registered in Touchstone.

The default SQL Server database is the server to which you are currently connected.

When you delete an SQL Server instance, it is no longer available to Touchstone. You cannot undo a deletion. Deleting a SQL Server instance also removes it from the business units with which it is associated.

Touchstone uses the default MDF and LDF paths when administrative users add a new, or modify an existing, SQL instance, or when they create a new exposure database while using AIR ImportExpress. Touchstone also uses the default paths when users create a new results database when running an analysis or add a new database through Data Source Management. If a default path is not specified, the system uses the SQL Server default. Users can override the default paths.

       Purge notes

To schedule a purge on a specified date and time or to schedule purges to recur either daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly, use Microsoft SQL Server Manager. You cannot schedule a purge through the Touchstone user interface.

Only one purge job can run at a time. If you press the Purge icon again while a purge job is running, an error message will appear.

To check the status of a purge job, use Microsoft SQL Server Manager.

For more information about purging objects from a SQL Server, see SQL Server and Database Tuning, Chapter 6: Purging Objects Marked for Deletion, which you can access from the AIR Client Portal.
