Completeness Rules |
The Data Quality Analysis Validate Data Completeness rules enable you to analyze the quality of your exposure data by flagging locations with empty, unknown, or user-specified values for geographic fields, values and terms fields, and primary or secondary risk characteristics. The following are the Completeness rules:
• Primary risk characteristics
• Secondary risk characteristics
Geographic rules help you identify locations with empty or missing location information. Without accurate location information, you run the risk of analyzing locations whose attributes may include an incorrect soil type or an incorrect distance to a coastline, which can significantly affect modeled losses. The following table describes the settings in the available rules, including the settings in AIR's default rule set.
Attribute |
Flags |
AIR Default |
Street Address Is Empty or X |
Locations with an empty, unknown, or default (X) street address |

Not applicable |
Match Level Includes |

Flags locations geocoded as: • City Centroid (6) • Postal Code Centroid (4) • County Centroid (7) |
Values and Terms rules help you identify locations with specific or no replacement values, with specific limits, and/or with specific deductible information. You can also configure the rules to flag locations with values above or below a specific range, such as locations with a building replacement value less than or equal to $50,000. The following table describes the settings in the available rules, including the settings in AIR's default rule set.
Attribute |
Flags |
AIR Default |

Locations with a user-specified combined building and contents limit value |
Not applicable |
Total Location Deductible |
Locations with a user-specified deductible value |
0 |
Location Deductible A and C |
Locations with a user-specified combined building and deductible value |
Not applicable |
Per Diem Replacement Value D |
Locations with a user-specified per diem time element replacement value |
Not applicable |
Annual Replacement Value D |
Locations with a user-specified annual time element replacement value |
Not applicable |
Primary Risk Characteristics rules help you identify locations with unknown values for key building attributes. You can also configure the rules to flag locations that match specific AIR codes or that have placeholder values. Since these values make up part of the damage function that AIR uses to calculate modeled losses for a location, it is important that they are accurate and complete. The following table describes the settings in the available rules, including the settings in AIR's default rule set.
Attribute |
Flags |
AIR Default |
Building Construction Is Empty or 100 (unknown) |
Locations with an empty or Unknown (100) building construction class |
Enabled |
Building Occupancy Is Empty or 300 (unknown) |
Locations with an empty or Unknown (300) building occupancy class |
Enabled |
Building Construction Code Includes |
Locations with user-specified building construction codes |
Not available |
Occupancy Code Includes |
Locations with user-specified building occupancy codes |
Flags locations geocoded as: • General commercial (311) • General industrial (321) |
Year Built |
Locations built in a user-specified year |
0 |
Height |
Locations with a user-specified number of stories |
0 |
Gross Area |
Locations with a user-specified gross area |
Not available |
Secondary Risk Characteristic rules help you identify locations with unknown values for secondary building attributes. You can also configure the rules to flag locations that match specific AIR codes.
Many of these rules are peril-specific; they will flag locations with unknown values only if the locations are also covered for the affected peril. Example |
By default, this rule set is not enabled in the AIR (Default) Completeness rule set. Select the check box if you want to enable it. The following table describes the settings in the available rules, including the settings in AIR's default rule set. The descriptive information notes the peril-specific rules that apply to the attribute.
