Cutting, Copying, and Pasting Data in Grids |
After selecting data, you can cut, copy, and paste it in various ways, depending on the Touchstone grids you are working with. Click here for information about selecting items in Touchstone grids.

You can copy and paste any data visible in the grid. However, you can cut data only from individual fields that you can manually edit in the exposure management grids, and you cannot cut multiple cells or rows. For example, you can cut-and-paste data from the Insured Name field in the Contract List, but you cannot cut data from the Perils field (the Cut command is not available on the shortcut menu).
You can paste data that has been cut or copied from either the grid or a spreadsheet into a spreadsheet or other external application. You can also paste exposure data from an exposure grid or from a spreadsheet into a grid without overwriting existing data.
If you copy contracts, you must edit the contract ID because the contract ID must be unique. Touchstone's Validation program will warn you about any data that you must correct after pasting it into a grid. |
You can copy, but not cut, data from a results grid, and you can paste the data into a spreadsheet or other external application, but not into a Touchstone grid.
You can copy with or without headers. Use "Copy with headers" to paste the data into a spreadsheet when you want to include the column headers.
You can select single cells and rows, multiple contiguous cells, and multiple non-contiguous cells for copying and pasting.
The following table summarizes the cut, copy, and paste procedures for exposure and results grids.

• Click in an Insured Name cell in a Contract List grid. The 4in the first cell of the selected row changes to an Edit icon (pencil) and the data in the selected cell is highlighted in blue, ready for you to edit, cut, copy, or paste the data.
• Select a few rows in the Locations grid. Right-click and then select Copy. Right-click the row above which you want to insert the copied rows and then select Insert Copied Cells. The copied rows are inserted above the row with the 4 icon. (Selecting Paste will overwrite data.)
• Select a few non-contiguous rows in the Locations grid. Right-click and then select Copy with Headers. Open a spreadsheet application and paste the copied data into it. Touchstone copies only the headers of the selected rows into the spreadsheet.
• Copy selected data from a spreadsheet application. Select a row in a Locations grid in Touchstone and then select Insert Copied Cells. The copied data is inserted immediately above the selected row (with the 4 icon), starting from the Location ID cell.
