Loss file upgrade utility

Utility to upgrade to a new version of Touchstone Re while preserving past loss file data.

In Touchstone Re 2025 (v13.0), changes being made in the following models will require the update of existing CLF (Company Loss Files) and DLF (Detailed Loss Files) in order to be compatible with Touchstone Re 2025.

  • Verisk Typhoon Model for the Northwest Pacific (M60): - Geography and line of business updates for South Korea.
  • Verisk Earthquake Model for Mexico (M72) - Line of business updates for Mexico earthquake.
  • Verisk Inland Flood Model for the UK and the Republic of Ireland (M92) - Geography and line of business updates for the United Kingdom flood.

This step involves the executable LossFileUpgradeUtility.exe which is also one step in the Touchstone Re installation.

Specifically, the utility upgrades company loss files:

  • On the primary and (if any) secondary SQL instances
  • For both default and custom business units
Note:
  • The loss file upgrade utility is used to ensure that existing company loss files in need of upgrade are identified and upgraded. CLA's are updated during the database upgrade step. When subsequently importing company loss files from prior software versions, any necessary upgrades are handled automatically by the company and company loss set import process.
  • The utility will automatically identify all SQL instances and Business Units in the environment and upgrade all impacted CLFs therein. The utility can be run multiple times without any issue, including after adding upgrading additional SQL instances

Before you begin

Important things to note before you proceed:

  • This utility is for Touchstone Re installations only.
  • Review System Requirements.
  • You must complete the following upgrades before you upgrade your company loss files:
    1. Attach all secondary SQL instances
    2. Upgrade primary SQL instance
    3. Upgrade the Application server
    4. Upgrade the head nodes
    5. Upgrade the compute nodes
    6. Install the model files
  • LossFileUpgradeUtility.exe InstallShield package runs on the Application server (IIS Server).
  • The Loss File Upgrade utility connects to the primary SQL Server to upgrade loss files. Microsoft SQL Server sysadmin authentication (not Microsoft Windows authentication) must exist on both the primary and secondary SQL servers to work.
  • Run this upgrade after you have completed the installation the new version of Touchstone Re.
  • Any loss files imported into this most recent version of Touchstone Re using the application Import feature, will be updated automatically.

  • The update can take a few hours to complete.
