AIR Construction and Occupancy Class Codes

The construction and occupancy class codes that you assign to each exposure have an impact on Touchstone analysis results. Consequently, it is important to understand these two categories of codes, the construction and occupancy classes that Touchstone supports, and which construction and occupancy class codes are valid for the countries or regions in which your exposures are located.

Construction Class Codes

Construction classes describe the dominant structural characteristics of an exposure. AIR uses a unique three- or four-digit code to identify each construction class. Touchstone defines and categorizes these construction classes in one or more of the following ways:

• By the predominant structural material of an exposure, such as wood, masonry, concrete, or steel

• By the type of structure, such as bridges, equipment, mobile homes, or storage tanks

Occupancy Class Codes

Occupancy classes describe the dominant function or use of an exposure, such as residential, commercial, industrial, or transportation. AIR uses a unique three- or four-digit code to identify each occupancy class.

Each AIR model/peril supports a specific set of construction and occupancy class code combinations per country/region.
