Business Unit Rules
The following rules apply to business units created and managed for any installation:
-
Business units must be unique across the application.
-
A business unit cannot share databases with other business units. Therefore, if a user needs access to multiple data sets, you must replicate their data on a regular basis.
-
Each business unit contains a collection of items which includes users, projects (Touchstone), companies/portfolios (Touchstone Re), and data results. These items are exclusive to the business unit.
-
If a business unit spans multiple database servers, each server contains one collection. However, the application filters the collection contents based on the server to which the user is currently connected. In this scenario, users select one server to work in.
-
Users can belong to multiple business units, but can work in only one business unit at a time.
-
Business units are not hierarchical. Entities in the structure are not subordinate to other entities.
