A note on cores
Manage cores to improve performance for Touchstone(Re) installations.
To optimize memory usage, a minimum of two cores will be used for all analyses. You can add more cores in multiples of two. This means you should be prepared to use more cores for larger models, such as the Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for the United States. You may also want to account for additional space to leverage some of the new model enhancements for this release. While model files can be deployed locally on the Analysis Server (compute node), we recommend you use a model share for cost savings and efficiency.
Note:
- Touchstone supports HPC node groups; therefore, clients can manage their cores by setting up individual node groups for separate business units.
- The recommended ratio is one model share for every 32 compute cores.
- Based on our latest testing, we observed that smaller core boxes (8 total per compute node) typically demonstrate better performance compared to larger core boxes (32 total or higher per compute node) when running loss analyses on the new financial engine. We recommend you consider this observation as you plan for environments running 11.5, 12.0, and 13.0.
