Downgrade exposure databases

Use the Data Source Manager Downgrade tool to downgrade Touchstone attached and registered exposure databases from the current version only to the previous version.

Note: We provide the SubmitDowngradeDatabases API for downgrading exposure databases. The Developer Zone enables you to locate API and database documentation.

You cannot use the Data Source Manager to downgrade Result databases. The Downgrade tool will downgrade Touchstone exposure database or databases onto a copied and renamed version of each selected and verified Touchstone exposure database.

The downgrade works only on current Touchstone exposure databases with the same SQL Server version. If the original exposure databases are not on the same SQL Server version, contact your database administrator (DBA) or Verisk Technical Support for assistance.

Procedure

  1. Launch Touchstone.
  2. From the global menu, select Tools > Data Source Manager.
  3. Select the Touchstone exposure database or databases, from the current Touchstone release, that you want to downgrade.
If a selected database is not eligible for the downgrade, the Downgrade button appears dimmed.
  4. On the ribbon, click .
The Downgrade Exposure Database dialog box opens. It lists the databases you selected. The tool populates the New Database Name, MDF Path, and LDF Path fields with the original database name followed by a suffix. For example, when you downgrade a database from Touchstone 2023 (11.0) to Touchstone 2022 (10.0), the suffix will be "_10".
  5. Edit the new exposure database names and MDF paths as needed.
The new database names for the copies of the downgraded databases must all be unique on the Touchstone database server.
  6. Click Verify to confirm the following:
    • There is enough space to store a copy of each of the renamed and downgraded versions of the exposure databases selected for downgrade. If there is not enough space available on the target SQL database, either free up space or select an alternate MDF path and try again.
    • The databases selected for the downgrade are all:
      • Exposure databases
      • Active
      • The same release version as the Touchstone environment
  7. After successful verification, click Downgrade to submit the downgrade job.
You can check the downgrade job log file to confirm the status of each database downgrade. The successfully downgraded database or databases will appear in the list of databases in the Data Source Manager and are attached, but not registered.

Next Steps

Detach the downgraded exposure database(s) so they can be moved and attached to another Touchstone environment running the prior Touchstone release version.
