Re-Geocoding Exposure Data

Re-geocoding exposure data.

Before You Begin

AIR strongly recommends that you geocode all exposure data before running analyses. Geocoding involves scanning each location record in a contract and then, using the best available address information, computing the geocode and updating the location record. The location record contains descriptive information that is unique to a property, such as replacement values, limits and deductions, construction and occupancy characteristics, physical characteristics, geocode data, etc.

Exposure data is automatically geocoded during the import process. The geocoding log contain a summary of match results; the geocode match level indicates the accuracy of the latitude and longitude assigned to each location. You can re-geocode all the exposure data in an exposure view, a single contract, and a single location. Re-geocoding writes over user-supplied geocodes only if the Geocoding Settings default is set to overwrite user-supplied and premium latitudes and longitudes.

Note:

You can specify any desired geographical data for exposures in offshore regions, especially user-supplied geocodes. Although Touchstone does not model most offshore areas, it does model the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). Consequently, you can include exposures in the Gulf of Mexico in, for example, detailed loss analyses.

Procedure

To re-geocode exposure data:

  1. Open a project.
  2. In the navigation pane, under Project Data, click All Exposure Views.
  3. Highlight the exposure view that you want to geocode again.

The exposure view management tools, including Geocode , become available.

  4. Click (Geocode).

    Touchstone submits the geocode job.

  5. To re-geocode a contract:
    1. Open the Contract List.
    2. Highlight the contract that you want to re-geocode.
    3. Click (Geocode).

    Touchstone submits the geocode job.

  6. To re-geocode a location:
    1. Open the Contract List.
    2. Open a contract containing the location that you want to re-geocode.
    3. In the Locations grid, highlight the location that you want to re-geocode and then check the information in the Address area of the grid.

The address must have one of the following pairs, city and state OR latitude and longitude, OR it must have a postal code. Click (Column Chooser) to select Address columns that may not appear in the default grid, such as the Latitude and Longitude columns. You can also check address information in the Location record, which you access by clicking the Location ID on the Locations tab.

    4. Click (Geocode).

      Touchstone submits the geocode job.

  7. You can monitor the progress of the geocoding job in the Activity Monitor, where the activity type is "Geocode".
