Creating Zone Sets |
A zone set comprises one or more zones based on geography; all the geographic areas in a single zone compose an accumulation area. You create zone sets to enable Touchstone to accumulate exposures in zones that you select during a Detailed Loss Analysis.
The Compatibility field indicates whether the zone sets you are creating are compatible for Detailed Loss analyses (Touchstone), for Aggregate analyses (Touchstone Re), or for both types of analyses. The green indicator tells you that the zone set is compatible for the specified type of analysis while the gray indicator tells you that the zone set is not compatible. Both indicators are gray by default when you launch Zone Set Manager. There are various cases where the Aggregate indicator is dimmed. Examples
If the zone set includes resolutions, such as "Country", supported in both products, the indicator will be green for both products. For detailed information about Touchstone Re options, refer to the Touchstone Re Help.
You can create zones with geographic areas up to Postal-level resolution. If you select overlapping zones during a Detailed Loss Analysis configuration, Touchstone double counts the loss results only if you configure the analysis to calculate total losses across zones.
You can create zones manually by selecting each geographic area to include in the zone set. However, you can also add a lot of zones much more quickly by using the Bulk Select option, which enables you to view loss results with greater granularity.
Touchstone retrieves label information for the geographic regions from the tGeolabel table in the AIRGeography database.
The default number of zones that you can view in the Zones panel is 1,000. However, administrators can configure the maximum number of zones that are displayed in the panel. When the number of zones exceeds that limit, the panel is 'frozen'. While the zones have been created, you cannot edit the zone set. You can, however, save the zone set that you created. Even if you cannot see zones in the Zones panel, you can select them when configuring a Detailed Loss Analysis. |
To create zone sets manually:
1. In the Administration Console, select Object Management > Zone Set Manager.
2. In the left most panel toolbar, click to create a zone set.
The default name is "New Zone Set".
3. In the Name field, type a unique name for the zone set.
Zone set names must be unique within and across all business units. Special characters are not valid in the names.
You can edit the zone set name at any time by entering a new name and then clicking Save.
4. In the Description field, type a brief description of the zone set.
You can edit the description at any time by entering a new description and then clicking Save.
5. To add zones to a zone set:
a. In the Global Regions list, select the region for the new zone. Examples
This topic provides information about how regions and countries are mapped.
Use the World global region to filter based on geographical areas. This is useful when you are not sure what region a country belongs to. Example |
b. In the Country column, highlight a country for which you want to view the available geographic areas.
Highlighting a country name displays the available geographic areas in the next column, but does not add the country to the Zones panel. The geographic areas in the next column vary according to the highlighted country. Examples
While you can create zones for non-modeled countries, and the zones will appear in the Zones panel, you cannot use them in a Detailed Loss Analysis (they will not appear in the Zone list in the Output Options pane). |
c. To add countries to the zone, select the check box next to each country that you want to include.
The Zone Set Manager creates a single zone for each selected country, and each zone appears in the Zones panel. When a user selects a country-level zone, such as Bermuda, when configuring a Detailed Loss Analysis, the loss results will include all geographic areas in the Bermuda zone.
If a geographic area includes mixed resolutions, such as "CRESTA" and "Province", a filter enables you to select the desired area. Example
Touchstone Re has an Advanced Loss Modification feature for use with some non-modeled countries: Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. For those countries, "(TS Re)" appears to the right of the CRESTA or Province item in the CRESTA/Province column. Example Some of these countries have different CRESTA information in Touchstone Re than in Touchstone.
d. Optionally, in the second column, select geographic areas to include in the zone. Examples
Touchstone names geographic areas after selections made in the selector columns, starting with the country. Examples You cannot rename these geographic areas.
When a user selects areas in the second column, the Zones panel lists the selected geographic areas, but no longer lists the country. Example If a user selects this zone for inclusion in a loss analysis, the loss results will be more granular, including only the selected geographic areas.
e. Optionally, in the third column, select additional geographic areas to include in the zone. Example
f. Optionally, in the fourth column, select additional geographic areas to include in the zone. Example
g. Optionally, in the Zones panel, add additional zones by clicking (next to New Zone) and then repeating the preceding steps.
Each zone appears in a collapsible section. You can expand one zone at a time, and the section will display up to 10 areas at one time (if there are more than 10 areas, you can scroll through the list.) If a zone contains multiple areas, the selector columns display the areas associated with the first area in the list (which is sorted alphabetically). Example
6. Click (Save).
The new zone set appears in the leftmost panel.
7. Optionally, create additional zone sets.
