Configuring a Deterministic Loss Analysis
For the Terrorism peril, you can run a Deterministic Loss Analysis for locations anywhere in the world. A deterministic loss analysis evaluates a specific terrorist attack scenario, such as the detonation of a 6-ton TNT bomb hidden in a small truck parked at a specific location. Touchstone provides the capability to estimate property and casualty losses and workers' compensation claims due to a potential terrorist attack.
For locations in the United States, the weapon could be either conventional or chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear (CBRN). For international locations, Touchstone currently supports only conventional weapons.
Conventional weapons include:
-
Conventional bombs
-
Car (0.75-ton TNT)
-
Large Plane Crash
-
Large Truck (25-ton TNT)
-
Medium Truck (10-ton TNT)
-
Portable (0.25-ton TNT)
-
Small Plane Crash
-
Small Truck (6-ton TNT)
-
Van (2.5-ton TNT)
For locations in the United States, the CBRN weapons are:
-
Chemical
-
Sarin
-
VX
-
Biological
-
Anthrax
-
Smallpox
-
Radiological
-
Cesium
-
Cobalt
-
Nuclear
-
1 kiloton
-
20 kilotons
-
50 kilotons
If you configure the analysis for a truck or van bomb at the base of a building with many stories and with many employees on the higher floors, be aware that the model does not differentiate between employees on the upper floors and the lower floors. You may want to adjust the distance between the bomb and the target according to the target's height. (To address this type of scenario, you do not need to enter additional information for FloorsOccupied.)
A Deterministic loss analysis is sensitive to the exact location of the target. To get accurate results, provide the exact street address or latitude and longitude of the building.
If you are analyzing a plane crash, provide the height of the target building in stories, not feet. The building height is not needed for other weapon types.
Procedure
To configure a deterministic loss analysis:
- Create a custom event set for the scenario in the Event Set Management module of the Administration Console.
- Configure the Detailed Loss Analysis, choosing the event set you created in step 1.
- Run the Detailed Loss Analysis.
