Selecting a Baseline Analysis

When configuring a catastrophe peril analysis with a a flexibility option, such as with a loss modification factor, with a custom vulnerability damage function, or with a custom frequency catalog, you can select an existing loss analysis as the baseline analysis. This option provides significant savings in the required amount of runtime and database space, as the loss engine does not have to run AIR's original view again. This feature is useful if you want to see the effect of different flexibility options on the original loss analysis results. In this case, the subsequent loss modification uses the same settings as those used during the selected baseline analysis.

You can use a baseline analysis only after running AIR's original view once. This restriction prevents a redundant run of AIR's view.

Procedure

To select a baseline analysis:

  1. Create a new catastrophe peril analysis.
  2. In the Analysis Settings pane, navigate to the Flexibility area.
  3. Select the flexibility feature you want to use. With Touchstone 2021, you can run an analysis with all the features selected.
  4. Choose whether to generate a standard AIR detailed loss analysis result in addition to the custom loss result. This option is selected by default.
  5. In the Baseline Analysis list, select the baseline analysis that you want to use.
    Note:

If you change any of the loss analysis configuration options after selecting a baseline analysis, the system prompts you that it will create a new baseline analysis. This ensures that the criteria for the analyses are the same in the baseline view and the modified view.

  6. Finish configuring the loss analysis and then run the analysis.
  7. Repeat the steps in this procedure as often as you want in order to see the results of different flexibility features on the baseline analysis.
