In Touchstone and Touchstone Re, create zone sets to accumulate exposures or losses in regions identified for loss
analysis.

Verisk recommends that you
review "More on zone sets" before creating zone sets.
Procedure
-
In the Zone Set Manager pane, enter a unique name for the zone set.
Zone set names must be unique within and across all business units. Special characters
are not valid in the names.
-
Enter a brief description of the zone set.
-
Enter a zone name to replace the default "Zone 1".
-
[Optional] Select the loss results filter:
Detailed Loss (for Touchstone) or Aggregate Loss
(for Touchstone Re).
The Clear Invalid Areas message becomes active if selected
geographies are checked off before a loss results filter is chosen with which they are
not compatible. Click the message, which tells you the number of areas that are not
compatible with the results and then click Yes to clear the
invalid areas or No if you do not want to continue with this zone
set.
-
Set up your zones:
As you create zones, the Compatibility option indicates whether
the zones you are creating include supported resolutions for detailed loss analyses
(Touchstone), for aggregate analyses
(Touchstone Re), or for both types of
analyses. If you select zip (postal) codes, the Aggregate
indicator turns grey (not compatible).
-
In the Global Region list, select a region.
-
In the Country column, select one or more countries by
selecting the check box next to each target country.
Highlighting a country name displays the available geographic areas in the next
column, but does not add the country to the Zones panel. The
geographic areas in the next column vary according to the highlighted country.
Note:
While you can create zones for non-modeled countries, and the zones will appear
in the Zones panel, you cannot use them in a detailed loss
analysis (they will not appear in the Zone list in the
Output Options pane).
-
To include all items for a selection, such as for a country, in the next column
(e.g., state, province, CRESTA), select only
one item at a time. When you select multiple items, Zone Set Manager fills in the next column only with geographic information related to the highlighted item.
The Zone Set Manager creates a single zone for each selected country, and each zone
appears in the Zones panel. When a user selects a country-level
zone, such as Bermuda, when configuring a detailed loss analysis, the loss results
will include all geographic areas in the Bermuda zone.
If a geographic area includes mixed resolutions, such as "CRESTA" and "Province", a filter enables you to
select the desired area. For North America, select Canada. Notice that there are two
Alberta areas, one for CRESTA and one for
Province. Click
(Filter
By Geographic Resolution) next to the Filter
box. The list displays the areas with mixed resolution (CRESTA and Province in this example). Clear the
geographic area that you do not want to add to the zone, such as "CRESTA". The selector column lists only Canada
provinces.
Touchstone Re has an advanced loss
modification feature for use with some non-modeled countries such as Kazakhstan,
Russia, and South Africa. For those countries, "(TS Re)" appears to the right of the
CRESTA or Province item in the CRESTA/Province column. Touchstone and Touchstone Re include Kazakhstan, a non-modeled
country. When you select Kazakhstan, the list in the Non-Modeled CRESTA column includes "(TS Re)" to
the right of the CRESTA item. Some of these
countries have different CRESTA information
in Touchstone Re than in Touchstone.
-
In the next columns, use the selection tools to include additional geographic areas
(e.g. county, parish, zip code).
-
Repeat this step to create additional zones.
-
Click
to save your work.
-
View and further manage the zones you created in the Zones pane
(far right).
