Guidelines to Specifying the Number of Cores

The table lists the factory-defined resource allocation scalability rules for various activity types. The table only includes activity types that are configurable in the Administration Console via the HPC Resource Management function.

This is a key to the table columns.

Activity Type Code

The code in the ActivityType table in the AIRReference database

Activity Type

The activity types that you can select from the list in the HPC Node Group Association pane

Cores

The minimum and maximum number of cores that can be assigned to each activity type

  • 1 means that the activity type can use only one core. Assigning more cores would not have any effect because the activity type's internal service is limited to using one core.

  • 1 - N means that the activity type can be distributed on an unlimited number of cores, although there may be diminishing returns beyond a certain point. For some activity types, AIR includes a recommendation regarding the number of cores.
