Creating a Basic Widget
This topic describes how to select a single measurement (total replacement values [TRVs]) and a single attribute (construction code) to display a two-dimensional view of the data, and how to filter the analysis summary data by steel construction. It also describes how to create a second basic chart to filter the data resulting from the first filter.
Remember not to close Touchstone during this exercise. When you close Touchstone, the widgets are not saved.
Procedure
To create a basic widget that filters total replacement values by construction code type:
- Open your project.
- In the navigation pane, click Results.
- Select Geospatial Analyses and then click the analysis name.
The map displays all the clusters of locations in the exposure set and the default Analysis Summary for the entire exposure view. By default, the summary includes the risk count sum (the number of buildings, that is, the sum of the Number of Risks column, in the exposure data file), exposure values count (the number of locations in the exposure view, at a minimum, those that are geocoded and analyzed), and total replacement value sum (the total replacement value for the entire exposure view).
Note:The Exposure Values Count is different from the Exposure Concentration Values Count. While Exposure Values Count specifies the number of locations in the exposure view, Exposure Concentration Values Count specifies the number of locations to which a damage ratio was applied. For example, assume that your Exposure Values Count is 400, but the damage ratio applies only to the locations that were coded for wind. If only 100 of the 400 locations were coded for wind, the Exposure Concentration Values value is 100.
-
Right-click on the map and then select (Basic
Chart/Table) from the shortcut menu.
An empty Data Chart and its associated Data Selector appear.
- Leave Chart (the default) selected as the widget mode.
-
Leave Defer Update (the default) selected.
After making changes in the Data Selector, you will click Update when you are ready to update the results in the chart.
-
To configure the Data Selector:
- In the Values column, select Total Replacement Value.
- Expand the Exposure Attributes category, scroll down the list, and select Construction Code Type.
-
Clear the Defer Update check
box.
The chart title bar is updated to Total Replacement Value Sum for Construction Code type and the chart displays the total replacement values (TRVs) by construction code type.
- [Optional] Resize and move the widget tiles.
-
To filter the analysis summary data by steel construction, in the
chart, scroll to the Steel construction code
type and click the Steel bar.
The Steel bar is highlighted and both the Analysis Summary and the map reflect the filtered data. (You may have to move the chart so that you can see the Analysis Summary.) When you move the pointer over the Steel bar in the chart, a tool tip displays information about the item.
-
To filter TRVs by construction code type and by occupancy
category:
- Create a second basic chart that filters TRVs by the Occupancy Category exposure attribute
- Clear the Defer Update check box.
-
Click the Commercial and
Industrial bars in the new
chart.
The bars are highlighted and both the Analysis Summary and the map reflect the application of both filters to the exposure data.
Tip:To remove items from a chart or table, such as particular construction code types, click the Menu icon (three horizontal black bars) in the chart or table and then select Data Selector. Click the Filter field and then clear the check box for each item that you do not want to include in the chart or table. For example, you may not want to include reinforced concrete construction in the chart or table. The chart or table will then display TRVs only for the selected construction code types.
